Mental as anything

Last time I wrote I bemoaned the fact no one ever handed me anything on the street – I don’t count the papers with no news items in, either. Therefore, I made it my plan to thrust myself into the path of someone handing things out. I thought where better to go than Oxford Street – the busiest street in London outside of Ewell High Road – where there would be copious amounts of literature forthcoming to make me look and feel popular. Within seconds of exiting from exit 69 at Oxford Street, I had someone actually looking at me determined to give me one of their leaflets. Never has this happened before – no cream for sensitive skin; no free pass to the local gym; no invite to new trendy club opening. Nothing. My hand has been a paperless society for several years now. But now, there was something in my hand, someone loved me (albeit for a nano-second) someone had identified me as being the best recipient for their product or service. I walked slowly down Regent Street – comparable to the Ewell-by-pass lights at Christmas – and into a shop entrance to see what I had been given. “7 steps to avoid mental illness said the card.” First lessons starts Monday – the next six when the leaflet dispensing person comes out of hospital.links: digg this del.icio.us technorati reddit
