Wild? They'll be bloody livid

posted Wednesday, 4 January 2006
If you were heading for Devon today to partake of a local cream tea washed down by a wild boar sausage, forget it, because £300,000 worth of scones have been freed by clotted cream activists. If you are in the depths of one of the Devonian Moors, do not approach any part of a cream tea, as they are dangerous if you have high cholesterol.
Also not on the menu is caviar. So, you’ll have to make do with salmon paste sandwiches this year and simply pretend you could be dining with the Czar and Czarina or any other type of old Ford motor car.
Radio 2 listeners have voted 1967 the ultimate year for music. Clearly our Gracie and Vera Lynn, whose staunch renditions about bluebells meeting again up our alley, has past them by. In my own personal opinion 1967 was the year I saw The Sound of Music at the Ventor Odeon, and I still wake up at night screaming the words to The lonely goatherd, so it wouldn’t get my vote. 1791 was good if your name was Wolfie.
